As an historian of the Revolution, José Peirats writes about post-war anarchist refugees in exile.
What happened to the half million refugees who left Spain when Franco came to power in 1939? José Peirats traces their story in this appendix to his carefully documented Anarchists in the Spanish Revolution. In the few months between April and September 1, 1939, six boats carrying Spanish refugees departed for South America and the Caribbean islands, but anarchists were left behind in French concentration camps, as permission to board was granted by the Communist Negrin. The organizing efforts of some of these Spanish militants are told within this pamphlet.
