Vinyl Magnet - Freedom for Angela Davis
Freedom For Angela Davis from People’s World magazine, 6 March, 1971.
Angela Davis is an African American feminist communist revolutionary, philosopher and academic. This poster was created at the time that Angela Davis was in prison awaiting trial in relation to an incident in a Marin County, California courtroom in August 1970 where a judge and three other men were killed during an attempt to free three black defendants (the Soledad Brothers: George Jackson, Fleeta Drumgo and John Cluchette). Angela Davis had supplied several of the guns that had been used and under Californian law all persons concerned in the commission of a crime are considered to have taken part. Angela Davis was tried for murder, kidnapping, and criminal conspiracy and was found not guilty and released in June of 1972.
Racism is deeply entrenched in our societies and cultures, and implanted in our minds—both consciously and subconsciously. It reinforces and perpetuates systemic inequalities, discrimination, and oppression, serving as a tool wielded by the ruling elite and their enablers to divide and control us. The fight against racism demands relentless effort: continuous learning, recognising and challenging our own unconscious bias, standing up to racists and taking action in favor of justice.
This is a digitally cleaned up image. The magnet size is approximately 69mm by 95mm (2.7" x 3.75").
