Daniel Bye & Boff Whalley - These Hills are Ours CD
This 48-page booklet and 8-song CD is Daniel Bye and Boff Whalley’s story of running in the English landscape. Running to escape the non-stop digital onslaught, running to celebrate those who gained us our freedom to run, running to find new adventures... and running to find yourself.
Daniel Bye is a theatre maker from Middlesbrough. As writer-performer his award-winning, internationally-touring shows include Going Viral, Arthur, The Price of Everything, How to Occupy an Oil Rig and Instructions for Border Crossing. With Chumbawamba co-founder Boff Whalley he creates large-scale participatory performance installations, with projects including Everything There Ever Was (East Durham Creates), Wonderstruck (People United/Manchester Museum) and We’re Here (Somerset House). Dan and Boff’s These Hills Are Ours, a theatre piece about their shared love of running up big hills, toured in Summer 2021 and throughout 2022.
Boff Whalley is one of the founding members of the anarcho-punk band Chumbawamba. In more recent years he has been a playwright and the founder of Commoners Choir, which combines political activism with singing. He is the author of several books, including Run Wild, about his experiences as a fell runne, and But: Life Isn't Like That, Is It? a collection of stories about real lives, real people, and real life. Stuttering, wayward, disjointed, funny, ridiculous, and unplanned. He lives in Leeds, UK.
